Galveston Tree Sculptures: In 2008, Hurricane Ike brought a storm surge of 6-15 feet through the historic city of Galveston, TX. This salt water flood killed thousands of trees, many of which had been planted to reforest Galveston following the Great Storm of 1900. Through the efforts of local citizens and the Galveston Island Tree Conservancy, a few of the dead trees have been carved into sculptures that now dot the island, many in the East End Historic District.
